How do I file an FIR in India?

To file an FIR (First Information Report), visit the local police station where the incident occurred. Narrate the incident to the duty officer. You may submit a written complaint or the officer will write it based on your statement. It must include: your name and address, date, time, and place of occurrence, nature of the offense, and names of accused (if known). You are entitled to a free copy of the FIR under Section 154 of the CrPC.
